Abstract

Background: Contraceptive implants are a highly effective long-term birth control method. However, many prospective users experience anxiety prior to insertion, which can hinder the acceptance and implementation process. Non-pharmacological interventions such as lavender aromatherapy have been recognized for their calming effects and potential to reduce anxiety naturally. Purpose: This study aims to examine the effect of lavender aromatherapy on anxiety levels among contraceptive implant acceptors. Method: A quasi-experimental design was employed using a pretest-posttest one group design approach. Participants were selected based on predetermined inclusion and exclusion criteria. Anxiety levels were measured using a standardized questionnaire administered before and after the aromatherapy intervention. The collected data were analyzed using appropriate statistical tests to assess the significance of changes. Result: The findings revealed a significant reduction in anxiety levels following the administration of lavender aromatherapy. Statistical analysis showed a p-value of 0.000 (p<0.05), indicating a meaningful effect. The mean anxiety score decreased from 21.77 prior to the intervention to 18.90 afterward, with a mean difference of 13.87 points. Conclusion: Lavender aromatherapy is effective in reducing anxiety levels among contraceptive implant acceptors. The therapeutic aroma of lavender is believed to promote relaxation, relieve emotional tension, and enhance comfort during the implant insertion process.
