Abstract

Background: The rapid advancement of digital technology has led to a significant increase in the use of electronic media among young children, including those aged 6–12 months. This phenomenon raises growing concerns regarding its potential impact on various aspects of child development, including, socio-emotional, cognitive, and physical domains. Therefore, it is essential to understand how patterns of digital media use are formed from an early age. Objective: The objective of this study was to comprehensively describe the patterns of screen time among children aged 6–12 months, covering aspects such as media access, frequency of use, content exposure, and the extent of parental supervision during digital device interaction. Method: This research utilized a quantitative method with a descriptive-analytic design. The sample was determined using a total sampling technique involving parents who used digital media with their children in Gatak and Delanggu villages. Data collection was carried out using the SCREEN-Q questionnaire, an instrument formulated in accordance with the guidelines of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) Result: The result showed that most children aged 6–12 months had excessive screen time and high access to digital media, particularly television and smartphones. Screen exposure has become a part of daily routines, with parental supervision still lacking in consistency. Conclusion: Parental involvement and consistent guidance, along with comprehensive education on digital media use, are essential to prevent negative impacts that may affect children's growth and development.
