Abstract

Background: Nurse professionalism is an important aspect for nurses in providing nursing services. However, sometimes there are still nurses who are not professional in carrying it out. This condition is related to various factors that influence nurses in implementing professionalism in their work. Objective: This study aims to analyze the influence of demographic factors, emotional intelligence, nurse practice environment, and nursing image on nursing professionalism. Method: This study used a quantitative method with a cross-sectional design. Data collection was carried out by distributing questionnaires to 146 respondents who were selected using a purposive sampling technique. Results: The results of multivariate analysis on demographic factors showed that only age had a significant effect on nurse professionalism. The highest nurse professionalism score was in the Gen Z group (B=-6.486; p-value=0.019). The results of the SEM-PLS analysis show that the emotional intelligence (B=0.201; p-value=0.007) and the nurse image (B=0.626; p-value=0.001) have a significant positive effect on nurse professionalism, while the nurse practice environment (B=0.166; p-value=0.065) has no influence on nurse professionalism. Conclusion: The findings of this study indicate that the factors that influence nurse professionalism are demographic factors, the ability of nurses as individuals to manage emotions, and nurses' beliefs and positive perceptions of the identity, role, and values of the nursing profession. Regarding the assessment of the monitoring and evaluation system in the work environment, it is not a factor that influences nurse professionalism.
